Boundless is bringing ZK proofs to Taiko with Surge, its latest network release. Surge also adds up to 25% more capacity to the proving market and cuts operator RPC overhead by up to 99%.
What this changes for builders on Taiko
If you were budgeting a fixed amount per proof yesterday, that line drops by up to half today.Boundless ran Surge against the prior version on Base mainnet over multiple days on identical hardware. Reliability held up across that run with zero proving failures logged, so the improved economics arrive without a tradeoff on service quality
Surge brings native multi-chain prover support to Taiko. Native multi-chain prover support brings native support to Taiko. Every prover already on Base is one config flip away from serving Taiko Proof Requests, which means the prover liquidity that accumulated around Base over the past year is now available to Taiko workloads without anyone spinning up new infrastructure.
What more cost-effective proofs unlock
Lower cost proofs change which products can actually ship, and a few categories become worth a fresh look:
-
Verifiable AI agents that need to prove what they did on-chain without proof costs eating the margin
-
High-frequency proof use cases like defi, oracle attestations and cross-chain messaging
Taiko is leaning hard into the AI Agent category, because cheap, fast and multi-chain proving is the piece these agents needed to act verifiably across environments without burning their margin on infrastructure.
A year ago this was the bottleneck for the whole agent category, because the per-proof economics didn't pencil out when an agent's work required continuous on-chain attestation, so most teams either skipped the proof step entirely or settled for selective verification of high-value actions. Surge moves the cost floor far enough that proving every agent action becomes economically rational, and the multi-chain configuration means an agent operating across Taiko and Base no longer needs separate proving infrastructure for each chain.
None of this is limited to teams building on Taiko. Anyone can request a proof through Boundless and use it wherever they need to, so an app on another chain that needs ZK proofs can request them and settle on Taiko without proving Taiko blocks at all. The proving runs on the same shared Boundless network whichever chain you target, so Taiko is one of the destinations you can route those proofs to, and the one we use to prove our own blocks.
Taiko has been routing proof workloads through Boundless since late 2025 as part of the SP1-plus-Boundless multi-prover setup that delivered 100% ZK coverage on every Taiko mainnet block, and Surge upgrades that integration onto the shared multi-chain prover network. The full technical breakdown sits in the Proving Node 2.0 release notes.
About Taiko
Taiko is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain protocol and ecosystem. As Ethereum's first based rollup and a Type 1 zk-EVM, Taiko provides Ethereum-equivalent execution for developers, protocols and applications. With autonomous agents now moving on-chain, Taiko is building the execution layer for agent-driven activity, supporting use cases across AI agents, real-world assets, DeFi and on-chain markets.
